Legacy

University of Regina

Historian, Kelsey Lonie, has been working with the University of Regina to ensure that young people from Saskatchewan have the opportunity to know about, and honour, the Regina Rifles in both World Wars. A history student from the U of R will complete an Honours project on the Regina Rifles and study what this monument in Normandy means for the next generation.

A smaller version of the statue will be placed under glass at the University campus with the names of veterans who returned and attended the University of Regina (Regina College as it was then known) and a time capsule about the project will be placed with this statue. When it is eventually opened, it will further extend the life of the Regina Rifles legacy on Juno Beach.

More details to come.

Viewing of the Statue in Saskatchewan prior to its Overseas Departure

The 8 foot statue is expected to be in Regina on 6 April 2024 at the Legislative Building. A commemorative ceremony will begin at 13:00 and the statue will be available for viewing until 15:00. We wish to provide an opportunity for as many folks from Saskatchewan as possible to view it. The project would not be possible without the generous donations of Saskatchewan citizens and many people from across the province have family connections to the men who served with the Regina Rifles in both World Wars. We know that it is not possible for everyone to be present in Normandy when the statue is unveiled, which is why it is very important to have the statue available for viewing here in the province before its departure overseas.

Partnership with Brandt Industries
